AboitizPower affiliate gets ERC okay for Benguet facility
MANILA - SN AboitizPower-Benguet Inc. (SNAP-Benguet), an affiliate of Aboitiz Power Corp., has secured from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) a certificate of compliance (COC) for all four units of the Binga hydroelectric power plant (HEPP) in Benguet.
The four units, situated in Barangay Tinongdan, Itagon, Benguet, have a capacity of 125.8 megawatts (MW) and an economic life of 50 years. The COC is valid for five years from its date of issuance, a disclosure from AboitizPower stated.
SNAP-Benguet is the owner and operator of the Ambuklao-Binga hydroelectric power complex, consisting of the Ambuklao plant in Bokod, Benguet and the Binga HEPP. It embarked on a refurbishment program in 2010.
The program consisted of construction of a new intake and head race, modernization of the control system and upgrading of the turbine units.
The Binga HEPP was bid out in 2007 with the Ambuklao HEPP through the government power sector privatization program. Aboitiz acquired it for $325 million.
