Alcala: Some groups manipulating rice prices
MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Agriculture said there is no rice shortage.
In an interview with dzMM, Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala said some groups are manipulating the price of rice.
The price of rice has increased by more than P6, from P18 to nearly P25 per kilo.
Alcala said the recent disasters such as the southwest monsoon (habagat), typhoon Labuyo and tropical storm Maring have affected the farmers' harvest.
However, he assured that the country's rice supply remains stable.
Alcala said the government has allocated hundreds of thousands of metric tons of rice to augment supplies during times of calamities.
- With ANC
