PH inflation slows to 4-year low in August
MANILA - Philippine annual inflation was 2.1 percent in August, slowing from the previous month's 2.5 percent rate on lower costs of food and beverages, tobacco, utilities, and clothing, the statistics office said on Thursday.
It was the lowest inflation rate since August 2009, when the rate was 1.7 percent. The median forecast in a Reuters poll of 12 economists was for annual inflation of 2.4 percent in August.
Average inflation for the eight months to August was at 2.8 percent, the statistics agency said, below the central bank's 2013 target of 3-5 percent.
