MANILA, Philippines – Jollibee Foods Corporation's corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm was recently recognized at the 2014 Asian CSR Awards for its efforts on improving education and poverty alleviation.

Jollibee Group Foundation (JGF) won the Education Improvement award for its Busog, Lusog, Talino School Feeding Program and the Poverty Alleviation award for its Farmer Entrepreneurship Program.

The two programs bested 109 other entries from 12 Asian countries. JGF is the first organization to win two awards in the same year, according to the Asian Institute of Management.

Jollibee Foods Corp. (JFC) and JGF chairman of the board Tony Tan Caktiong and JGF president Grace Tan Caktiong received the awards together with JFC directors, Chief Justice Art Panganiban and Washington SyCip.

“We are truly honored and humbled by these awards. We celebrate cognizant of the fact that this would not have been possible if it were not for the commitment and hard work of our partner agencies coming from schools, community-based organizations, NGOs, local government units, government agencies, academe, international and local development organizations, and most importantly our partner-beneficiaries across the country,” Grace Tan Caktiong said.

JGF’s Busog, Lusog, Talino School Feeding Program has helped communities address hunger among undernourished public school pupils since 2007.

The program supports 120-day feeding for the 40 most undernourished pupils within the school year in partner schools, to help them stay in school and learn better.

The Farmer Entrepreneurship Program, on the other hand, aims to improve small farmers’ income by linking them to the supply chain of institutional markets such as JFC.

The Asian CSR Awards, presented by the AIM, honors Asian organizations whose program achieves excellence in terms of services to stakeholders and innovative sustainable solutions to pressing social challenges.

Another Philippine company also received an award. Magsaysay Maritime Corporation received the Intel-Asian Institute of Management Corporate Responsibility Award (IACRA), which honors companies that have embedded corporate social responsibility into its operations.

President Benigno Aquino III handed out the awards on September 3 during the Gala Dinner and Awards Night of the 2014 Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (AFCSR) held at the Rizal Grand Ballroom in Shangri-la Hotel Makati.
