No spike of rice prices in Cotabato City
COTABATO CITY, Philippines – Amid price hikes of commercial rice in some parts of the country, rice prices in Cotabato City remain steady and cheap, a rice dealer and retailer said on Sunday.
Rolando Ong, who owns a rice merchandise in the city, said they are even planning to decrease the prices of commercial rice as it is now harvest season in South Cotabato.
A sack weighing 49-50 kgs of seven-tonner ranges from P1,850 to P1,900, while the cheapest is M-1 rice, which goes for P1,600 to P1,750.
Sinandomeng rice, meanwhile, is sold for P2,000 per sack.
Ong said the prices of commercial rice in the city are different from those sold in Luzon. They even slashed P2 per kilo in the retail of commercial rice on Saturday.
Owners of other retail stores also insisted that the prices of rice did not go up.
Rice dealers also believe that there is no hoard in the city, as Central Mindano is an agriculture-based economy.
