BIR shuts restaurant chain in QC
MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Internal Revenue on Friday closed down three King Chef restaurants in Quezon City over underdeclared taxes.
According to BIR director Jonas Amoro, the restaurant chain, owned by Maritess and Michael Leslie Ang, owes the government around P20 million from 2011 up to the present.
Apparently, the restaurant does not issue proper receipts to its customers.
Amoro said the BIR has given ample notice to the Angs but they have failed to settle their tax liability.
Ang wrote the BIR to request for a one-month extension, but the BIR says this is not allowed.
There is a mandatory 5-day closure order but the establishment may be reopened and the order lifted once the owner settles the taxes due. Otherwise the BIR may file a case against the taxpayer.
