House passes 2013 budget on 2nd reading
MANILA, Philippines - The House of Representatives on Thursday evening passed the P2.006 trillion national budget for 2013 on second reading.
The General Appropriations Act for 2013 provides for the P2.006-trillion national budget for 2013, which is 10.5% higher than the P1.816-trillion budget this year.
"We strongly believe this spending bill will ensure sustained service to our people and maximize the developmental use of the people's money by improving accountability in the budget process," House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte said in a statement.
Under the 2013 budget, the Department of Education has the biggest budget with P292.7-billion, followed by the Department of Public Works and Highways with P165.5-billion, the Department of National
Defense with P121.6-billion, and the Department of Interior and Local Government with P121.1-billion.
The Department of Agriculture had the 5th biggest budget with P74.1-billion budget; followed by Department of Health with P56.8-billion and Department of Social Welfare and Development at P56.2-billion.
The Department of Transportation and Communications was given a P37.1-billion budget, while the Department of Finance received P33.2-billion and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources got P23.7-billion.
At the same time, Belmonte said the House passed 826 measures on 3rd reading, including the AFP Modernization, Kasambahay Bill, Modernization of PAGASA and National Land Use and Management.
