Rene Villa replaces Pichay in LWUA
MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang has named Rene Villa as acting member of the Board of Trustees of the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA), replacing Prospero Pichay, who was dismissed from service last July.
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said Villa would have to be elected by the board if he were to become chairperson of LWUA.
Villa was Agrarian Reform Secretary under the Arroyo administration from August 2004 to July 2005. Villa was part of the so-called "Hyatt 10" Cabinet and sub-Cabinet officials of President Arroyo who abandoned her and joined groups that called for her ouster from office over the "Hello Garci" scandal.
He replaces Pichay, who was ordered dismissed by the Office of the Ombudsman for grave misconduct in connection with the unlawful use of some P780-million LWUA funds for the acquisition of a Laguna-based thrift bank in 2009.
