MANILA - Remittances from overseas Filipinos should reach about $17 billion this year, when inflows through unofficial channels are included, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said in a presentation on Thursday.

The BSP was maintaining an official forecast that remittances through official channels, mainly banks and remittance centers, would be flat from $16.4 billion in 2008, officials said.

However, BSP Governor Amando Tetangco said last week remittances could grow 2% to 3% this year.
