Passengers at NAIA slightly up to 19.6 M in 7 mos
MANILA - Volume of passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) inched up by one percent in the first seven months of the year as the Aquino administration pursues projects to decongest the country’s premier international gateway.
Data from the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) showed the number of passengers using the international gateway reached 19.618 million from January to July this year or 200,000 more than last year’s 19.418 million.
The number of arriving and departing international passengers grew 4.8 percent to 8.95 million as the number of arriving and departing international flights increased 9.2 percent to 50,074 in the first seven months.
On the other hand, the volume of arriving and departing domestic passengers declined about two percent to 10.66 million as the number of flights declined 5.7 percent to 88,274.
“The was a small decline in domestic but substantial increase on international,” MIAA general manager Angel Honrado said.
All in all, the number of international and domestic flights handled by NAIA from January to July this year reached 138,348.
