Businessmen set up fund for whistleblowers
MANILA, Philippines - The Management Association of the Philippines is setting up a fund that would serve as aid for pork barrel scam whistleblowers Benhur Luy and several others.
MAP President Melito Salazar Jr. said they would like to send the message that the private sector is supporting these whistleblowers, in order to encourage more people to come forward and expose similar issues pertaining to corruption of public funds.
This is not the first time for MAP to come up with a whistleblowers' fund. In 2011, they were also able to set up a fund for then Commission on Audit auditor, now commissioner, Heidi Mendoza, and Lt. Gen. George Rabusa, regarding the plunder case against AFP Comptroller, Maj. Gen. Carlos Garcia.
Salazar said the business community is very disappointed with the pork barrel scam, especially those who have been paying the right taxes diligently.
However, the whistleblowers' fund will not necessarily come from MAP's fund, but from donations that may come from both MAP and non-MAP members.
Donors may sign a pledge form and indicate the name of the whistleblower they'd like their money to go to.
Donations may be forwarded directly to the MAP Secretariat office in Unit 608 Ayala Tower 1. Their telephone numbers are 751-1149 to 52.
