Manila Water says 94% of customers have clean water
MANILA - About 94.4% of Manila Water Co.'s customers now have access to potable water, following the onslaught of tropical storm "Ondoy" (international code name Ketsana), the company announced Tuesday.
In a statement, Manila Water said its Elena and Curayao Line Boosters are already operational after the pumping station experienced flooding due to the typhoon. As of Tuesday night, the company said only 8 areas in its concession area do not have access to clean water.
Specifically, Manila Water said it has yet to supply water to areas in Rodriguez (12,000 households), San Mateo (4,000), Marikina (6,300), Cainta, Taytay, Angono, Binangonan, and Pasig (16,000 for all 5 areas).
Manila Water said it continues to repair pump stations in the municipalities of San Mateo and Rodriguez, and will restore operation of its Brookside Pumping Station in Cainta to provide water to affected residents in still-flooded Cainta, Angono, Taytay, and Binangonan.
The company said it has deployed 22 water tankers to evacuation centers, and is set to dispatch 2 portable water plants in Binangonan and San Mateo to convert floodwater into potable drinking water. In the meantime, Manila Water advised its customers to call 1627 for concerns and updates on water service.
At present, Manila Water serves residents in Metro Manila's East Zone, which comprises of Makati, Pasig, Mandaluyong, Marikina, San Juan, Taguig, Pateros, most parts of Quezon City, some parts of Manila, and municipalities in Rizal province.
