NTC seeks police help after hacking incident

MANILA, Philippines - The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has asked for help from the Philippine National Police's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), after its website was hacked.

"We are coordinating with other government agencies to investigate the matter and currently working on its immediate restoration," NTC deputy commissioner Carlo Jose Martinez said.

A group of anonymous hackers attacked several government websites early morning Monday, in protest of the recently passed Anti-Cybercrime Law.

In its Twitter account, "hacktivist" group PrivateX said the following government websites have been hacked:

The NTC is looking at measures to prevent similar hacking incidents in the future.

"It is very difficult to prevent a repeat of this but we are coordinating with the CIDG for assistance both in investigation and protection of our websites," he said.

Last week, the websites of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas' (BSP), Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), American Chamber of Commerce in Philippines, Philippine Anti-Piracy Team, Department of Environment in Region 3, Institute for Development and Econometric Analysis and the Department of Health's Anti-Smoking program were also hacked.
