PAL flights to US remain normal despite US govt shutdown
MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Airlines said its flights to the US remain "normal" despite the US federal government shutdown, which started on Tuesday.
"PAL flights to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Honolulu and Guam will continue based on the declaration by the US Department of Homeland Security 'that TSA (Transportation Security Administration) operations will not be impacted' by the US government shutdown," the airline said, quoting Homeland Security Department federal security director Brian Cahill.
On Tuesday, the U.S. government began a partial shutdown for the first time in 17 years, potentially putting up to 1 million workers on unpaid leave, closing national parks and stalling medical research projects.
Federal agencies were directed to cut back services after lawmakers could not break a political stalemate that sparked new questions about the ability of a deeply divided Congress to perform its most basic functions.
