Labor dept offers 1,500 emergency jobs for storm victims
MANILA - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is offering 1,500 emergency jobs for victims of tropical storm "Ondoy" (international code name Ketsana) and typhoon "Pepeng" (international code name Parma).
These jobs will be offered to residents in the National Capital Region, Marikina, and Rizal, particularly to those whose workplaces have been affected by the 2 storms. They will be given a daily salary of P316 for 15 days to clean roads and to help in other waste disposal activities.
In Marikina alone, the local chamber of commerce said some 100,000 people are unable to go to work due to heavy floods. Factory owners in the country's shoe capital said they may need a month before they can resume regular operations since a number of their machines have been damaged by the storms.
To address the growing need for long-lasting jobs, the DOLE urged the state-run Development Bank of the Philippines to release the agency's budget at an earlier time.
Mayayaman Ang Magdudumi, Mahihirap Ang Maglilinis.
