DTI: Expect lower bread prices before Christmas
MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said bakers are expected to slash the price of loaf bread and pandesal by P0.50 before Christmas.
"We are going to ask the bakers to reduce their prices in loaf bread and pandesal both branded and the Pinoy Tasty and Pinoy Pandesal," said Victorio Mario Dimagiba, officer-in-charge of the DTI consumer walfare and business regulations group.
The price cut follows lower flour prices, which fell to as low as P870 per 25-kilo bag from P940.
Just two months earlier, the DTI and baker groups were locked in a debate over bread price hikes, as some flour millers filed an anti-dumping case against cheap imported flour. - With ANC
