BSP expects inflation to pick up
MANILA, Philippines - Inflation will accelerate further this quarter, after jumping in September but not enough to force the Bangko Sentral to raise rates.
BSP Governor Amando Tetangco said inflation will be in the lower end of the bank's target range or even below range.
After jumping to 2.7% in September, the 9-month inflation was at 2.8%. The BSP's target range is 3 to 5%.
As long as inflation stays within that range, the BSP doesn't need to fight it with higher interest rates that could damp economic growth. - ANC
