Palace defends release of SSS bonuses
MANILA - Malacañang defended the release of bonuses to members of the Social Security System (SSS) board amid questions on its timing as customers face an increase in contributions vis-à-vis the agency's unfunded liability amounting to billions of pesos.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said the bonuses were derived from its income and not SSS contributions.
He added that that the release of the bonuses follows requirements spelled out by the Governance Commission for GOCCs (GCG) and that SSS employees too would receive bonuses.
"Hindi po totoo 'yun. Hindi po doon manggagaling po ang kanilang bonus," Lacierda said when asked if SSS contributions are being used to fund these bonuses.
"The bonus is contingent on the revenues generated plus also other requirement as imposed by GCG."
"We can only declare bonus kung kumikita 'yung GOCC at malaki naman po ang kinitang SSS po dito. Ang alam po natin meron din namang corresponding bonus yata ang mga empleyado. May anniversary bonus yata."
