MANILA, Philippines - Toyota Motor Corp.'s  global recall of around 7.4 million vehicles over faulty power window switches will include around 22,000 units sold in the Philippines.

Rommel Gutierrez, vice president of Toyota Motor Philippines Corp., said the company will notify customers affected by the recall to visit Toyota dealers for repairs.

The affected units in the Philippines include Yaris, Rav-4, Camry, Corolla and Vios models.

Gutierrez said the affected vehicles were imported mostly from Thailand and made between 2006 and 2010, such as the Corolla and the Camry.

Some Vios units, which were assembled in the Philippines, are also covered by the recall.

The affected Yaris and Rav-4 vehicles were imported from Japan.

The recall is intended to fix a malfunctioning power window switch on the driver's side, which are a fire hazard.

The voluntary move is the biggest single recall since Ford pulled 8 million vehicles off the road in 1996 to replace defective ignition switches that could have caused engine fires.

"The process to repair (the power window switch) is not an extensive one," spokeswoman Monika Saito said, adding that it would involve putting heat-resistant grease on the switches, or exchanging them.

Toyota declined to say how much the recall would cost, or what impact it may have on future earnings. - With Reuters
