Aftershocks force BSP, banks to suspend operations in Cebu
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Cebu office declared a suspension of work at 12 noon, Wednesday, as aftershocks continue in the Visayas region.
Malou Berciles, head of the BSP Cebu regional office, declared a work suspension at 12 noon due to the continued aftershocks in the province. The decision was approved by BSP deputy governor Diwa Guinigundo.
The Cebu office was open on Wednesday morning, a day after the earthquake.
Berciles said BSP operations will resume on Thursday.
Several banks have also suspended operations in Cebu.
"For the safety of our clients and our employees, we are suspending operations of our branches and offices in Cebu City today, October 16," Citi said in a statement.
Citi said its clients can log on to www.citibank.com.ph to make transactions.
East West Bank said its branches in Cebu Banilad and Cebu Park Mall are also shut today.
In its Twitter account, BPI said its branches in Cebu N. Bacalso, SM City Cebu and SM Cebu are closed today.
BPI also said the following branches in Bohol are also shut: Tagbilaran Mall, Tagbilaran BQ Mall, Tagbilaran Island City Mall, Panglao, Pacific Mall, Grand Mall and Gaisano Country Mall.
BDO Unibank said its branches in Cebu and Bohol have also suspended operations due to damages caused by the quake.
The following BDO branches closed today are Cebu-Gorordo, Cebu Elizabeth Mall, Cebu North Road and Cebu-Parkmall. Other branches in Cebu remain open.
In Bohol, BDO has suspended the operations of its Bohol-Tagbilaran and Tagbilaran-C.P. Garcia branches.
