MANILA, Philippines--The Budget department has released almost P2 billion for classroom-construction and right-of-way claims for projects under the Aquino administration's public-private partnership program.
Bulk or P1.63 billion of the total amount will be used for the design, construction, and maintenance of 9,301 classrooms in various school sites in Regions I, III and IV-A.
"By working closely with the private sector, we can expedite classroom construction and do it in a cost-efficient way, so that our students and teachers will have enough classrooms by 2013," Budget Secretary Florencio B. Abad said in a statement.
Another P328 million, meanwhile, will be used for right-of-way acquisition costs for the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEx). DBM added the remaining P180,000 will be used to replace trees cut or displaced by the construction of said expressway.
Phase I of the PPP School Infrastructure Project was awarded to consortiums of Citicore Holdings Investment, Inc.-Megawide Construction Corp., Inc. and BF Corp.-Riverbanks Development Corp. earlier this year, while construction of the TPLEx is expected to be completed in May 2013.
