PLDT eyes acquisitions in provinces
MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) is looking for acquisition opportunities in provinces across the country, its president Napoleon Nazareno said.
Nazareno said the dominant carrier is open to acquiring private telephone companies nationwide.
“We are looking at opportunities. I think we are looking at Mindanao but we are still open in parts of Luzon and Visayas,” said Nazareno.
He said PLDT is on the lookout for areas where the company has no presence.
PLDT earlier took over the operations of several local telephone companies in Central Luzon and Mindanao, including SubicTel, Clarktel, Maranao Telecoms, CruzTelco Cluster 3, and Philcom.
PLDT also entered a partnership with the Durano-owned Dana Telecom (Datelco) in Danao City, Cebu, which entails providing telecommunication services in the area.
Under the agreement, PLDT will take over the existing customers of Datelco and embark on joint marketing and promotions of PLDT’s products and services in Cebu’s fifth district.
PLDT currently has 73.4 million cellular phone subscribers consisting of 31.8 million for Talk n’ Text, 25.5 million for Smart Communications Inc., and 16.1 million for Sun Cellular.
