MANILA - The country's public-private sector reconstruction commission will meet multilateral donors next week to discuss a recovery plan for the country following the devastation caused by previous storms.

"We will discuss ways for reconstruction. And come the end of November, we will be having an expanded dialogue with donors for the reconstruction activities," Rosalia de Leon, officer-in-charge of the Finance Department's International Finance Group, said.

Finance Secretary Margarito Teves, who leads the public sector group in the commission, will preside over the preliminary meeting.

The informal meeting will set the stage for the actual Philippine Development Forum (PDF), which will be held from the last week of November to the first week of December.

Contrary to the usual assessment of the country's achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, de Leon said this year's PDF would be a "pledging session" with multilateral lenders such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.

But first, the government has to assess the amount needed to finance 4 major projects lined up by the public-private sector commission. These projects involve de-clogging operations, medical treatment of flood victims, repairs of school buildings, and putting up of rain gauges as early warning devices.
