MANILA - Vietnam's Vinafood 2 and Korean trading firm Daewoo International Corp. have won bids to supply a total of 250,000 tons of rice to the world's largest rice importer, the Philippines' National Food Authority (NFA) announced on Friday.

Daewoo and Vinafood 2 gave the 2 lowest bids at a tender on Wednesday for the import of 250,000 tons of rice and were widely expected to win the contracts.

Vinafood 2, Vietnam's largest rice exporter, will supply 150,000 tons of 25 percent broken white rice to Manila at $480 a ton, cost and freight, for arrival in January.

Daewoo was awarded a contract to ship 100,000 tons of the same rice grade at $468.50 a ton, C&F, from Thailand and or Vietnam, between January and April, NFA spokesman Rex Estoperez said.

The world's largest rice importer, the Philippines has the option to buy 25% more of the tendered volume, or 62,500 tons, at prices offered during Wednesday's bidding, Estoperez said on Thursday.
