MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino has certified the sin tax reform bill as urgent.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said certifying a bill as urgent will allow the Senate to tackle the bill on second and third reading on the same day.
Valte underscored the necessity of the measure, saying expected revenues from sin taxes will be used to fund health care. This includes building rural health units and public hospitals and expanding health care coverage for the poor.
"Andami po talagang bagay na importante sa pangkalusugang pangkalahatan natin na pwedeng puntahan ng pondong 'yun. The certification of the President only shows the support for this particular measure," Valte said.
