MANILA - Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) announced Wednesday that it will undertake a project aimed at improving its facilities in Pasay City.

Rustico de Borja, Meralco vice president and subtransmission services head, said the power firm would proceed with installing facilities such as poles inside Airmen's Village in Villamor, Pasay City in the coming days.

He said the 14 new poles are expected to augment power supply in the NAIA (Ninoy Aquino International Airport) Terminal 3 and other nearby establishments, and reduce power outages in the area.

It would be recalled that operations at the NAIA were disrupted last September, causing flight delays and cutting communication links between pilots and airport officials.

"Clearly, it will not only be these establishments that will benefit from the said project, but indirectly also the thousands of Filipinos employed by them and the local economy as well," he said.

Borja said Meralco has already secured the necessary permits and clearances for the said project. "The safety of these Meralco facilities has also been verified by health and safety inspectors," he said.
