MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. is dismayed by Customs chief Ruffy Biazon's resignation.

The group says Biazon is a big loss to the government.

PhilExport president Sergio Ortiz Luis Jr. said smugglers may be celebrating Biazon's resignation.

"Marami siyang kalaban, kaya I'm sure maraming nasiyahan sa sa pag-alis niya. Dapat yung papalit sa kanya must be really honest, at di maiimpluwensyahan. Otherwise kakainin siya nang buhay," he said.

Biazon tendered his irrevocable resignation on Monday after he was implicated in the pork barrel scam.

Biazon maintained his innocence, but said stepping down from his post is the honorable thing to do amid the controversy.

“I resign in order to prevent exploitation of the controversy by parties who would like nothing better but to have an issue to throw against the Aquino administration,” he said. - With ANC
