Agriculture damage due to Pablo reaches P11.57-B

MANILA, Philippines - Typhoon Pablo's damage to agriculture has already reached P11.57 billion, latest data from the Agriculture department showed Wednesday.

Banana crops bore most of the brunt with production loss estimated at P7.36 billion, followed by corn at P1.24 billion, the data, dated Dec. 11, showed.

Damage to coconut plantations amounted to P766.82 million, while rice production loss was pegged at P407.39 million.

The data also showed livestock lost due to typhoon Pablo summed up to P415.16 million, while damage to irrigation infrastructure reached P1.17 billion.

Typhoon Pablo, which ravaged southern Philippines last week, has already killed 740, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Tuesday.

The death toll is expected to rise further as 890 more remain missing.
