Toshiba to make image sensors for cars, security cameras
TOKYO - Toshiba Corp. said Thursday it will start making CMOS image censors for car-mounted cameras and security cameras amid growing demand, aiming to acquire a 30 percent share in the global market in the business year starting April 2014.
The Japanese company will start mass producing the sensors from March next year. Car-mounted cameras are often used in operation support systems such as to aid reversing.
Toshiba plans to produce 200,000 units of the new product each month. It already produces CMOS image sensors for mobile phones.
