There’s always an answer to almost everything. Who says we can be beautiful without going to a salon or spa? Maintaining beauty is expensive. Weekly visit to beauty centers is women’s necessity nowadays.

“We need not buy expensive beauty products, the answer is just inside the house,” reveals Cory Quirino, a well known health, beauty and wellness guru.

Guava

We are always confronted with irritating dry skin. Some signs include roughness, itchiness, achy feeling, unsustainable skin moisture and fine lines surrounding the mouth). “I encourage everybody to drink at least 10 to 15 glasses of water daily. To those with Vitamin C deficiency, they should increase vegetable and fruit intake,” advises Cory Quirino.

Guava is a good option. Prepare a slightly ripe one. Crush it. Scrub onto the skin and the whole body parts including the face. Leave for 5 minutes. You can do every day or once a week.

Chamomile tea is another option. Boil one pint of water and steep or brew 4 teabags of chamomile for one minute. When the water cools, add a few drops of citrus essence – Philippine lime (dayap), calamasi or kahel will do – and mix thoroughly. Use the mixture as facial wash.
  
VCO

Triglyceride is one of the amazing properties of the virgin coconut oil. It penetrates the skin faster than other oils and has a more lasting effect. All you just need to do is put small amount around the eyes before applying make-up. Rub a little on skin parts that are commonly dry and dark like the elbows, ankles and knees once a day. You can also put virgin coconut oil on dry lips twice a day before going out of the house and before bedtime.

Aloe Vera

Considered by others as a miracle plant for its various uses and benefits, aloe vera is a good choice to treat dandruff or dead skins on the scalp. Dandruff is commonly caused by allergy to soap or shampoo, changes in weather and irregular bathing habits. Peel off the skin of an aloe vera stalk and rub onto the scalp.

Dr. Emil Aligui, an Herb Expert, adds, “Aloe vera has hyaluric acid that strengthens the skin membrane. It can tighten sagging skin and has an anti-inflammatory effect which makes aloe vera good for hemorrhoids. It is also edible and quite effective in neutralizing acidity.

Coconut Milk

If you are looking for an excellent moisturizer that penetrates the skin deeply, the first squeeze of a grated coconut called “kakang gata” is the right choice.  For dry skin, spread it like lotion on the affected parts of your body; for dry hair, put a small amount on the scalp; and for dry hair, put it as hair mask and wear a shower cap. Let it rest for an hour before rinsing.

Papaya

For fairer skin, you need a good ripe papaya, fresh milk and coconut sugar. Scoop the papaya, put in a bowl or container and mash it thoroughly. Add the fresh milk and the coconut sugar. When everything is mixed, spread it on the skin and rub it gently. Leave it for 4 minutes before taking a bath. There’s no strict measurement on the ingredients as long as it is proportionate with the others.

Not only does the papaya aids skin renewal, it is very rich in Vitamin C essential to boost the immune system. It also has rejuvenating properties that assist in preventing premature aging.

The lactic acid in milk has alpha hydroxy acid, which has been used for centuries for skin beauty and care. On the other hand, the course texture of sugar helps in exfoliating dead skin.

Water

“To wash fats away, drink 2 glasses of warm water mixed with lemon or kalamansi huice when you wake up in the morning. You can drink this, 30 minutes before every meal,” suggests Cory Quirino.

Dr. Emil Aligui adds, “Water assimilates the body system and it begins with the stomach. The fullness you feel in drinking water and the acid of lemon and kalamansi juice kills your cravings to eat more than the required intake.”

Green Tea

Since the onset of global health consciousness, age-old green tea has been one of the most favored natural options for weight loss. Study indicates that the substance in green tea called the polyphenols stimulates the fat burning effect. Suggested daily intake is 1 cup every 3 hours after a small meal. However, drinking tea on an empty stomach is a bad idea.

Seaweed

For cellulite concerns, all you have to do is go to the market and buy the appropriate amount of seaweed you need. This costs around P30-40 per kilo. Rub and crush onto the skin. Leave it there for 5 minutes before rinsing. You may add rock salt if you wish to remove those dead skins at the same time. This is not recommended for the face. Seaweed has very powerful enzymes which remove fat deposits on our skin,” says Cory Quirino.

Guava sprout

Guava sprouts has an astringent property. Mince the sprout and directly put in on pimples. You may add water if you wish but the concentrated extract has better efficacy.

Tidbits:

 

  • Turmeric or luyang dilaw also cures pimples, as well as insect bites, as it has anti-inflammatory properties. Rinse, slice and put on the affected part.
  • Cold bath rinse stimulates the skin nerves to produce new cells and helps decrease weight. Just a reminder, the opposite is also true. Hot water dries the skin and damages the capillaries.
