Sports Unlimited: Romblon's Sibuyan Island Exploration
ABS-CBN Foundation's Bantay Kalikasan, led by Gina Lopez, once again teamed up with Sports Unlimited to discover more of our country's hidden natural beauty. On our travel map for the week: Romblon.
Sibuyan island is one of the three largest islands that make up the province of Romblon. Home to the majestic Mount Guiting-Guiting, which in local dialect means "jagged" because of it sharp looking ridges, is considered by seasoned mountaineers as the most technically challenging peak to climb in the country.
The Mount Guiting-Guiting Natural Park is also home to what is considered as one of the densest forests in the world, making it one of the most bio-diverse places in the planet, with many plant and animal species yet to be discovered and catalogued.
From Manila, Sports Unlimited took a direct flight to Caticlan, then took a four-hour chartered outrigger boat ride from Caticlan to Sibuyan.
Hidden in Sibuyan's mountains are some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the country, one of which is Lambingan Falls. This natural treasure is located in the fishing barangay of Silum. A fiesta-like welcome greeted the team. The warm people of Sibuyan do know how to make the guests feel at home.
The team headed up to the first level of the waterfalls. Along the way, a rippling brook greeted them. The first level of the falls was perfect respite from the harsh summer sun.
Lambingan's fresh waters are so clear you can practically see most of the rocks under it. It was hard to resist. Seeing it just makes you want to plunge in. Marc, Dyan, Gina and Sam took a leap from a big rock!
From the first level, the team trekked up to the next level. They carefully made their way higher, where small pool pockets serve as nature's jacuzzi. Through the help of ABS-CBN’s Bantay Kalikasan, cabanas are now ready to accommodate weary tourists who want to take refuge in its cool waters.
