Sports Unlimited: CrossFit: the newest fitness craze in town

CrossFit is a fitness system that has taken the world by storm. It has caught the attention of fitness buffs looking for a way to break their traditional gym routine.

Across the globe, more and more people are hitting "the box," the term CrossFit training practitioners fondly call their gym.
 
It has evolved into a brand new sport that enjoys the participation of thousands of Crossfitters across the globe. In the Philippines, CrossFit Manila and CrossFit Insurrecto are not only aiming to produce fitter gym enthusiasts, they are also aspiring to bring about a whole new breed of Filipino athletes who will compete in this new and challenging sport.

Sports Unlimited host Marc Nelson visited the CrossFit Manila box, located at the Philippine Army gym, to try this fitness system himself. Canadian head coach John Britton, fresh from his ninth place finish at the Asian CrossFit Challenge, was at hand to welcome Marc into the box.

Crossfit is very new in the Philippines but it is already enjoying a huge following from a variety of world-class Pinoy athletes like wushu world champ Pip Conde, Kona Ironman finisher Coach Ferdie Catabian, champion powerlifters like coach Aaron dela Cruz and martial arts practitioners like Coach RJ Garcia.

Marc did the customary warm-up and after that, he was given a very warm CrossFit welcome by Britton. Coach John introduced Marc to the exercise they call "Fran."
 
Marc was really in for quite a challenge. Before long, Marc was huffing and puffing, but he soldiered on.
 

Marc also got to know more of the other challenging exercises that make up the system of CrossFit like muscle-up exercise and handstand push-ups.
 
CrossFit may be challenging but the coaches are there to guide one through the different levels of the workout.

At the CrossFit box, one definitely would not see just men doing it. Ladies do CrossFit, too. From chefs, students and mothers, to athletes, CrossFit is just the thing to push your fitness to the next level.
 

For those of you who want to go from being a softie into a toughie, CrossFit will definitely change your outlook on fitness.
