MANILA, Philippines – TV Patrol anchors Karen Davila and Julius Babao on Friday bid goodbye to the country’s top prime time news program, which will have veteran anchors Noli de Castro and Korina Sanchez back starting on Monday.
“Salamat sa pagtitiwala at suporta na ibinigay niyo sa akin....sa inyong lahat, na 6 na taon niyo po kaming pinanuod dito sa TV Patrol. Magkikita na naman po tayo muli,” Davila said before the program closed.
She urged Kapamilya viewers to extend their support to the 2 returning veteran broadcast journalists.
“At sa Lunes, suportahan niyo po ang TV Patrol, kasama po si ‘Kabayan’ Noli de Castro, Korina Sanchez at si Ted Failon,” Davila said.
She also expressed her thanks to her anchor-partner for 6 years, Ted Failon.
“Maraming salamat sa anim na taon, partner. And, sa ngalan ni Julius Babao, na nakabakasyon pa po,” she said.
Babao also bows out as TV Patrol anchor starting on Monday.
In response, Failon said the changes were in the interest of Kapamilya viewers.
“Change is constant. It’s a matter of papaano po natin tinatanggap yon. At siyempre, yung pag tanggap natin ay para po sa kapakanan ng mas makararami na atin pong Kapamilya,” he said.
Davila then added: “At hindi naman po nagbabago ay ang pagmamahal ko sa inyo.”
Babao, meanwhile, posted a tweet in his official Twitter account.
"Thank you sa mga tweets nyo. It's been great anchoring TV Patrol for 7 years. Hindi mangyayari yun kung hindi dahil sa suporta ninyo. : )," he tweeted.
Davila and Babao are expected to anchor ABS-CBN’s late night news program, Bandila, with Ces Drilon.
Changes in TVP
ABS-CBN announced on Wednesday the changes in TV Patrol starting November 8, Monday.
"For the first time, three respected news icons in Philippine broadcast journalism are joining forces to strengthen “TV Patrol,” ABS-CBN’s flagship newscast and the leading news program in the country for the past 23 years," the country's largest broadcast network said in a statement.
"Starting November 8, Korina Sanchez and Noli 'Kabayan' De Castro will return to television to join Ted Failon in 'TV Patrol' to form the most tried and tested news team ever assembled in the history of Philippine broadcasting," ABS-CBN said.
ABS-CBN said "de Castro returns with a wider knowledge of the workings of government after his stint as vice president of the Philippines."
De Castro served as senator from 2001 to 2004 and as vice-president from 2004 to 2010. He decided not to run for the presidency in 2010, choosing instead to return to broadcasting.
Sanchez is married to former senator Mar Roxas, who lost in the May 2010 vice-presidential race to Jejomar Binay, former mayor of Makati City.
