MANILA, Philippines – Singer-songwriter Rico Blanco has blasted Lakas-Kampi-CMD standard bearer Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro for using his composition, Rivermaya’s “Posible,” in one of his political advertisements, claiming that it was done without permission.

In his Twitter account, a pissed Blanco wondered how a presidential candidate like Teodoro “can overlook a simple matter such as intellectual property.”

“i'd like to understand how can a presidentiable can overlook a simple matter such as intellectual property. command responsibility,” Blanco, Rivermaya’s former vocalist, tweeted. “even HS students ask permission from me if they want to use my songs for their school projects… and they dont even have to.”

Blanco was surprised that the singer in the political ad even copied his voice. He said this might give an impression that he is supporting Teodoro in the coming elections.

“ok finally saw it. very nice ad. but wow. they even copied my singing/voice. so it cant be that they just werent aware i existed. sakitsaulo,” he said.

He acknowledged that Teodoro is a smart person, “but if you can't run a good campaign how can you run a country?”

The singer also argued that notifying the song composers is a sign of respect. “when we did the tribute album i made it a pt 2 get composers nod even when publishers assured us they had rights. iba yun eh. RESPETO lang.”

“ATTENTION PEOPLE IF YOU WANT TO USE ANY OF MY COMPOSITIONS TALK TO ME DIRECTLY. i will point you to the proper publishers if any,” he said.

It was reported that Tedoro’s camp paid the record label, Viva Records, for the rights.

Despite this “very strange intellectual property issue,” the singer is giving the administration’s presidential candidate the benefit of the doubt. He said his camp is already talking to Tedoro’s team, adding that he hopes the issue will be settled soon.

“To be fair, he is on my very short list. so i hope things get sorted out. he seems to be smart and all,” said Blanco, who appeared in the music video of ABS-CBN's election campaign, “Boto Mo, iPatrol Mo (BMPM): Ako ang Simula.”

Blanco’s tweets have been a subject of discussions in various blogs as well as on Facebook and Twitter, with some asking if the issue could affect Teodoro’s chance in May polls.

the real issue is..

Para kang bumuo ng sarili mong bahay, then may ibang nakitira na hindi man lang nalalaman nung tunay na owner ng bahay. Gets??

This is not about money. Eh ayaw nga ipagamit ni Mr.Blanco yung mga kanta niya sa kahit sinong presidentiable eh. I'm not against Mr.Teodoro, pero may point si Mr.Blanco sa issue na to.

Rico ksp LANG

KSP lang 'tong si Rico Blanco, he needs publicity para mapagusapan siya and it works. Never heard his name before, ngayon nakikilala ko na siya because of this issue.

Kakalabas sa twitter, Lizza Nakpil is the owner listed.

@jjc2214, yes I think this is about the squabble of Lizza Nakpil and Rico Blanco that started way back. By the way, that wasn't my fb in my other post, I just saw that in someone else's fb. That was the fb of the musical scorer.

this is not about gibo

.

Former manager and talent

its clear. liza nakpil did not inform rico blanco about the usage. is this another former manager former talent squabble? I read about an comment in your fb sir democracy2010 and you are stuck in the middle.

Nice discussion in comments.

Nice discussion in comments. Mukhang may connection nga ito sa away ni Rico Blanco with his former manager.

Respect goes both ways

Opinion ko lang ito ha, pero ang iniisip ko lang, how can Rico Blanco talk about respect when he made charges about rights violation without talking to people first? Where is the respect there? Even if there was a problem, di ba dapat dinadaan muna sa tamang pag-uusap para maayos? If I remember right, he left Rivermaya some years ago and he already had issues then against his manager about rights. Does anyone know who won the case?
