MANILA, Philippines – Japanese-Brazilian model Daniel Matsunaga vehemently denied that money was the reason he and former girlfriend, actress Heart Evangelista, called it quits.

In a live interview with “The Buzz” on Sunday, Matsunaga said money was never an issue because they were both busy working.

“Hindi totoo kasi I have my own savings. I even used to do stock markets sa Hong Kong and I’ve been working,” he said.

Matsunaga said when he is in a relationship, he always tries to do his best "to take care of everything.”

“People, of course, will say so many things about it. It doesn’t come from Heart and me, of course, kasi alam ko na I did my best, everything to be the one providing,” he said.

Matsunaga, who was with Evangelista for one-and-a-half years, also shrugged off speculations that it was their two-year age gap that was the root of their disagreements.

“I don’t think so. Kasi since I was 16, I used to live by myself so I’ve learned a lot all by myself. I think I’m pretty much matured already,” he said.

The Japanese-Brazilian model said the real reason of their falling out was because of their long-distance relationship.

“Kasi bumalik ako sa Brazil for 30 days. Siguro it was a miscommunication so we ended up fighting a lot. Kasi alam ko I lost a very special person kaya nag-break ang heart ko. Pero tapos na 'yun,” he said.

Matsunaga even said he is genuinely happy for the actress, who is currently in a relationship with Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero.

“Alam ko [na sila na] from so many people. Masaya ako para sa kanila kasi kung masaya si Heart, masaya ako. Hindi ako umiyak, hindi ako napikon,” he said.

Having said this, Matsunaga revealed that he is now open to meet new women.

"Single ako ngayon pero I’m ready for the next girl who will come into my life. I’m not looking sa physical. I’m more on the inside,” he said.

Matsunaga is currently being linked with television host Kris Aquino, who has repeatedly denied that something is brewing between them.

But on "The Buzz," Matsunaga, who is among the guest co-hosts of "KrisTV," revealed that he gave a Christmas gift to Aquino as well as his two sons, Josh and James Yap Jr.

He said he gave the host-actress a DVD of Christan band Hillsong, while he gave the two boys cupcakes.
