Rosanna Roces breaks silence on 'Showtime' controversy
MANILA, Philippines – Controversial actress Rosanna Roces was saddened that her remarks on “Showtime” resulted in the 20-day preventive suspension of the ABS-CBN talent show.
The actress pointed out that the Kapamilya network took it upon itself to immediately address the issue even before the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) could call its attention.
Roces has been axed as one of "Showtime's" judges after taking potshots at school teachers during the program's January 7 episode.
Roces, however, maintained that she is not criticizing all teachers. She also argued that she has the liberty “to say whatever I want to say.”
"Nagpapasalamat ako sa ABS-CBN dahil binigyan nila ako ng pagkakataong humingi ng paumanhin sa aking naging pahayag sa ‘Showtime.’ Naramdaman kong nakahanap ako ng tunay na kapamilya sa ABS-CBN dahil hindi nila ako iniwan sa ere. Kung sa ibang network, gaya ng naranasan ko noon, ay iniwan ako at pinabayaang magpaliwanag ng mag-isa," she said.
Like Roces, the show’s hosts - Anne Curtis, Vhong Navarro and Kim Atienza - and judge Vice Ganda were disappointed by the MTRCB’s decision.
The Kapamilya network has already taken action to make sure that the popular show will come back on air soon.
According to lawyer Mona Manalo of ABS-CBN legal department, the network filed on Tuesday a petition before the Court of Appeals.
In its petition, Manalo said the network has asked the court to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) and a writ of preliminary injunction to restrain the MTRCB from enforcing its January 11 suspension order.
The network also asked the appellate court to issue a writ of certiorari to set aside the order and to make permanent preliminary injunction.
Standing by its decision
Amid criticisms, the MTRCB, meanwhile, said it is standing by its decision. MTRCB chairwoman Consoliza Laguardia also belied reports that the board did not follow procedures when it issued its suspension order.
According to Laguardia, even before Roces' controversial remarks on teachers, the board already received a complaint regarding the actress' comments directed at fellow judge Vice Ganda.
In a letter dated January 5, Laguardia said she instructed the management of the show to explain why a preventive suspension order should not be slapped on the program.
She said the board finally issued the order after Roces’ 2nd offense.
Laguardia insisted that the board acted within its mandate, adding that the MTRCB can suspend television shows even if the hearings are still ongoing.
The hearing on "Showtime" controversy will begin on January 14. She said the board will take into consideration the network’s action to remove Roces from the show after criticizing the school teachers.
She also assured that the board will comply if the appellate court issues a TRO. -Reports from Marie Lozano and Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News

Based on the article which was published on 12th of January, 2010- Group of Certain Teachers expressed and advised Rosanna Roces to go back school and learn again GMRC...
Sana- tinanong muna din nila ang mga kapwa nila guro kung ano nga ba ang tutuong GMRC... Ibig ho ba nilang sabihin na kailangan ulit mag-aral ng iba nating guro...
Kasama ho sa ba pag-aaral ng GMRC ang pagtitinda ng Ice Candy, Candies or Tinapay na pag-aari ng mga guro... na minsan ay pumapayag pa na "utang bayad bukas" dahil sa ubos na ang baon ng pupil... Pakipaliwanag naman ho sana ito...
Sana naman - binigyan nila ng pagkakataon si Rosanna Roces na magpaliwanag... Marahil- ang kanyang pananaw ay galing mismo sa kanyang karanasan...
Oho...galing ako sa isang pampublikong paaralan ng Gerona Tarlac kaya alam ko na makatotohanan ang bawat pahayag ni Rosanna Roces...

For Rossana Roces sana bago ka nagbitiw ng kung ano ano tungkol sa mga Teachers sana tinanong mo muna kung ano nakapag-nakapagcollege na ba yong contestant mo kasi kung hindi di nya talaga alam kung saan at kung ano ang pinangalingan ng tunay na pangalan ni Dr. Jose Rizal. Sa highschool kasi depende sa mga teachers kung ituturo nila ang buong detalye ng buhay ni Rizal kasi yong Noli me Tangere ang El Felibusterismo ang tinuturo doon yong 2 aklat na sinulat ni Dr. Jose Rizal, Ibarra at Simon. Kalimitan kasi na panimula nila sa paksang ito ay kunting detalye lamang na patungkol kay Dr. Jose Rizal.Sa collegio dun nila mapag-aaralan ang Rizal`s life and works. Pero nakadepende parin yan sa mga istudyante kung sila ba ay interesado sa kanilang pinag-aaralan o hindi. Kung mahilig silang magsaliksik alam nila. Kasi kung ituturo na simula highschool ang buong detalye ng buhay ni Dr. Jose Rizal para ano pa sa collegio?Yong contestant nya name palang ng magulang ni Dr. Jose Rizal di na nya alam pano pa nya masasagot yong tanong mo..So i hope you learn the lesson.
it's showtime
Well what can i comment to this issue is that every Filipino has the right to express his/her thought whether it is in television or not. Nagkasala man si Osang o ang ABS-CBN management why do we condemn them that much. OK it's their fault then give them due process. Bakit hindi ang mga KURAKOT NA OPISYAL NG GOBYERNO ang isuspinde at IMBESTIGAHAN. Sa bawat ISANG KURAKOT na nakaluklok sa gobyerno maraming pamilya sana ang hindi kinakapos ng pagkain, GAMOT, EDUKASYON AT MAAYOS NA TIRAHAN. At ngayon IKUMPARA NATIN, sa bawat araw na walang showtime, ilang pamilya kaya ang walang makain dahil nawalan ng trabaho ang mga staff and crew ng show? At ilang naghahangad na magpakita ng talento ang nawalan ng pagasa na magtanghal sa entablado ng showtime. Nagkaroon nga ng MAGPASIKAT para magkatrabaho sila pero nais pa rin ng MTRCB na isuspend din yun. Well is it true that the same feather flocks together. Correct me if am wrong.

Don't act like you guys, are so perfect that you don't make the same mistakes. Grown up people. You are so easy to judge people but you don't judge yourself with the same mistake that you often do. Have you ever ask yourself that? People Filipino's are so good criticizing someone when he/she makes mistakes? Don't you make mistakes? Like you never criticize someone? Don't even say "NO" coz you are fooling yourselves. Officers on MTRCB should be replaced by open minded people.

kelan ba sila fair sa opinion ng mga host ng ABS? eh kay Mr. Willie nga noong libing ni late president Cory Aquino nagalit sila sa host ng wowowee kasi pinapatanggal ung coverage sa screen kung saan may show sya. eh tama naman si Mr. Willie doon, nagsasaya sila sa show nya tapos pipapakita ang ang coverage ni late President Aquino, di parang di na rin nya nirespeto ang pagkamatay nito... pero mali ang pananaw ng MTRCB sa kanya. we are free to voice out kung ano sa palagay natin mali or tama. may mga tao talagan na di nakakatanggap ng mali nila, kaya nasasaktan pag nasisita ng iba...

To YOU...
If Osang judged and comment wrongly to the teachers who join the SHOWTIME, then do you think that your comment or judgement had been Justified and Considerate to ban the whole SHOWTIME show?
I ask YOU... Have YOU ever been considerate?
Have you think about those Staffs, their families and love ones who will be affected on YOUR act and judgement?
Have not the Teachers Association was even more considerate than MTRCB?
If you are against SHOWTIME and wants the entire show to be banned for 20days, then you are just like one of MTRCB and I hope that you will not be like one of the STAFFS of SHOWTIME.
I am not tolerating the wrong and mistakes of OSANG, but let be your act and judgement be Justified and Considerate!
On my own opinion, removal of OSANG to the show was more than enough.
And I hope that this will be a another lesson to YOU, to ABS-CBN which they need to Highly consider on their standards and to all other Network stations shows.
