Actress-singer KC Concepcion said that despite her showbiz commitments, she still has time to fulfill her responsibilities as United Nation-World Food Programme’s (UN-WFP) national ambassador.
Concepcion stressed that her number one priority is to help WFP in helping the needy especially the people who are affected by the conflict in Mindanao.
"Hindi talaga mawawala ang kawanggawa. Priority ko 'yon. Of course alam po ng ABS-CBN na priority ko ang UN ko. So ginagawa ko yon. Pinag-uusapan para may ma-enganyo na masuportahan yung cause. Eh di parang nagawa ko na yung trabaho ko sa kanila,” Concepcion said.
Concepcion also dismissed other people's speculation that she is receiving money to spread the cause of UN-WFP.
“Hindi po kami binabayaran sa UN. Baka iniisip niyong binabayaran kami. Talagang kusa naming ginagawa ‘yon,” she said.
She added, “Trabaho ko po ‘yon bilang spokesperson nila na pagusapan. Kasi nga para malaman niyo kung ano ang nangyayari, at kung ano ang nagagawa ng ibang organisasyon diyan para makatulong.”
It was February of last year when abs-cbnNEWS.com broke the report that Concepcion was named as the Philippines’ first National Ambassador Against Hunger.
Concepcion is the second ambassador against hunger from Southeast Asia after Indonesian TV and film actor Luna Maya.
In an interview with the news site, the WFP spokeswoman revealed it wasn’t easy getting picked for the job by the UN.
"I went through a screening process for four months, and the [UN offices in] Rome and Thailand ang nag-screen. So, wala kaming kinalaman (we had nothing to do with it),” she said. “Pwedeng hindi ako ang napili (It could have been someone else), but in the end, I'm just very, very happy.”
WFP is funded entirely by voluntary contributions. The major donors to WFP's emergency assistance program for people affected by the conflict in Mindanao are the US, Japan, Spain, Australia, and Germany.
Concepcion the daughter of Megastar Sharon Cuneta by former husband Gabby Concepcion is now busy promoting her second film titled “When I Met You” with big screen partner Richard Gutierrez.
