After 'Showtime,' MTRCB now mulls suspension of 'Magpasikat'
MANILA, Philippines – “Magpasikat,” an ABS-CBN talent show that temporarily replaced “Showtime,” is also in danger of being suspended.
The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) insisted on Thursday that “Magpasikat” and “Showtime” “are one and the same show,” thus, the replacement should also go off the air.
The MTRCB made this statement during its preliminary hearing on the remarks made by Rosanna Roces on “Showtime” that resulted in the 20-day suspension of the show.
"'Yong suspension ng 'Showtime Live' ay i-extend doon sa 'Magpasikat Live' because they're one and the same, " said lawyer Jonathan Presquito, MTRCB's legal counsel.
Before the suspension order can be issued, however, the hearing committee quickly clarified that this will still be investigated.
"We will see. Aalamin pa ng committee kung totoo nga," said lawyer Paulino Cases Jr., head of the hearing committee.
Nonetheless, the statement of the MTRCB has caught the Kapamilya network by surprise.
"The MTRCB says that supposing the hearing is on a certain subject and suddenly we are surprised that the prosecution brings up an all together different subject," lawyer Miguel Silos, ABS-CBN's legal counsel, said.
During the preliminary hearing, the committee was initially scheduled to investigate Roces’ remarks that were directed at Vice Ganda in “Showtime’s” January 4 episode. But the MTRCB also brought up Roces’ January 7 controversial remarks that have been criticized by many as insults to school teachers.
The Kapamilya network lamented that the MTRCB kept issuing orders without due process.
ABS-CBN lawyer Maxim Uy added: "Ang basehan nitong mosyon ng MTRCB ay ang sabi nila dahil pareho daw ang mga hosts at bukod din doon pareho ang mga production staff. Siguro naman ho alam natin na hindi dahil pareho ang mga host at pareho ang production staff, ang ibig sabihin ay pareho na ang programa."
ABS-CBN Corporate Communications head Bong Osorio also complained that the board seemed to be targeting ABS-CBN shows being aired on the noontime slot.
“Parang wala na silang gustong ABS-CBN program na ipalabas sa timeslot na yan. Ano kaya ang meron sa timeslot na yan at napag-iinitan?” he said.

Thanks spdrc060 for aggreing with me. I was giving enough thought of these issues and feel like violated also coz we're the fans of the show was also been affected and deprive the entertainment were getting on the shows of our beloved kapamilya. While pondering I also thought about the poor people/staff working behind the show, wala silang kamalay malay MTRCB was also targering the whole staff (I mean the makeup artist, ligthning person, sa controller and anybody working behind the show. MTRCB was not only satisfied just to rename the show but also the whole staff should not work. Me pamilya iyung mga kawawang tao na ito. I'm not talking about Vhong, Anne, Kim or Vice ganda, I'm sure they have enough money to sustain a suspension. MTRCB be reasonable. I know we cannot junk MTRCB kasi kailangan rin natin nag magpolice sa ibang networks na bastos. I'm proposing to whoever elected President this coming May is to reform the MTRCB. Right now from my point of view, they acting like the police, the judge and the executioner and this goes against the grain of a democratic society. MTRCB (Movements To Reform the Censor Board). Wake up sabi ng asawa ko. Mga tanga daw.
Censorship
Not familiar with the law there, but I think consulting with a legal counsel is a great idea. We are a democratic society, not a commie. Sure there are regulation and governing body, however the network rights seems to be violated in respect to common sense. Find the hole and see if a class action lawsuit has any ground. I hate arrogant people, most specially liberated morons. Good Luck ABS-CBN! Hope you guys can find a legal ground.

I agreed with danjosie. Why suspend the whole crew, hosts and show. It doesn't make any sense at all. I think someone in MTRCB is getting paid by the other network. Showtime have triple rating compared to them. Plus everyone loves the show. MTRCB are over sensitive or stupid. Maybe both. You can't dedicate the the judges of the show to say and for what I know Philippines is a free country. Right??? So Osang speak her mind out and of course some teachers or people are very sensitive when being criticize. Well suck it up.. that's a reality check. It doesn't matter, either on TV or not. Human nature is to criticize. That's part of life. Fire everyone on MTRCB (Mga Tangang Retarded na Committee Basura).!!!

I agreed on most of the comment here that MTRCB or MTCB (motion and television Censure Board)not the original MTRC (Motion and Television Review Board)is out of bounds. Just a penny for your thought, if you're working on a company or a office environment then one stupid comment by your temp employee to the press what do you think it's going to happen. Are they going to close the whole company or departments because of one or two unprofessional and poorly deliver speech by the temp worker. Be reasonable.

Insulting
MTRCB is just doing its job in clearing up shows, movies and entertainments free of obscene, offending, insulting and vulgar comments/elements. ABSCBN is an admirable tv company but there are times they are getting too comfy and arrogant that draws critisms and ire of people. There are staffs in their company that would not simply follow rules and the worse is they would make fun of people or governing bodies like MTRCB by re-naming a show. It is thus insulting that instead of correcting the mistake they made, they've ridiculed and fooled with the case . Yan ang effect sa tao, now everybody will think that it's ok to defy rules and make fun of it. Don't forget RESPECT for others at the expense of fun and entertainment!

ibalik nyo n ang showtime madami ang natutuwa at natutulungan nila,maraming kabataang talentado ang nadidiskubre ng show na ito,aamini ko kapuso ako pero pagdating ng 10:30 am solid kapamilya ako walang lipatan,kahit commercial,ibalik nyo na ang its showtime,hindi kasalana ng show yun kasalanan ng isang taong walang kontrol ang bunganga,hindi nag-iisip bago pumutak,think before you speak ika nga.......

i am really fumed when MTRCB suspended "SHOWTIME". they only based the suspension because of the irresponsible comment of osang. mrs. dela guardia-sibil, osang is only a passerby of the show, a guest and a judge. osang must be the one reprimanded by MTRCB not the show, no hosts from the show commented such tactless "bubbling-mouth" comment by osang and why suspend the show? the hosts and the staff never failed of what is being regulated by the network, so why suspend the show? i think abs-cbn should banned osang from any shows of abs-cbn. she is egoistic, proud, tactless and irresponsible person. i may suggest that the hosts and staff should remind their judges(before the show starts) to make comments based only to the performance of the contestants.
MTRCB is annoying!
Mula sa perspective ng isang manonood, hindi ko pa rin maintindihan hanggang sa ngayon kung bakit sinuspindi ang 'Showtime.' The fact na nag-self regulate ang ABS-CBN nung tinanggal nila si Rosanna Roces bilang hurado is one thing. And the fact that "biglaan" yung suspension is another thing. Bakit kapag si Willie Revillame ang nagkakamali, s'ya lang ang suspended, hindi yung buong 'Wowowee?' Malinaw na walang sinusunod na tama at maayos na sistema o patakaran ang MTRCB especially when it comes sa pagpapatupad ng kanilang mga batas. Tapos ngayon, 'Magpasikat' naman ang pinag-iinitan! Bayad ba ang MTRCB? AYAW BA NILANG KAININ NG KAPAMILYA NOONTIME SHOWS PAGDATING SA RATINGS RACE ANG MGA PROGRAMA SA IBANG ISTASYON? IBALIK ANG 'SHOWTIME' BECAUSE THE FILIPINO VIEWERS DESERVE QUALITY TV PROGRAMS!
