MANILA, Philippines - Several individuals in a posh village in Pasig City who witnessed the alleged confrontation between actress-TV host Kris Aquino-Yap and an alleged girlfriend of her husband shared with ABS-CBN News their accounts of what they heard and saw.

Marlyn, a maid who works for the house directly across the street from the Austrias, said she saw Kris's car pull up in front of the house of James Yap's rumored girlfriend, Mayen Austria, at Valle Verde 2 in Pasig City last Wednesday.

The actress was reportedly with her son Joshua.

Marlyn said Kris spoke with Mayen, followed by Mayen's mother Nina.

The maid said Kris seemed calm and spoke in hushed tones when she spoke with the Austrias.

A neighbor's driver, meanwhile, said James Yap and Mayen Austria are good friends since Mayen used to date a basketball player. He said Mayen tutors children within their subdivision.

The driver, who gave the name "Mang Danny", said Kris seemed ill-tempered when she arrived at the Austria house.

"Mataray ang dating ni Kris nang sumugod siya. (She seemed in a bad mood when she came)," he said.

The Yaps live within walking distance from the Austrias at the Valle Verde 2 village.

ABS-CBN News briefly spoke to the Austria family's maid "Nanilyn", who said she was not present when Mayen and Kris talked.

Asked if she saw Mayen crying after the incident, the maid said: "Hindi naman, hindi ah. Hindi umiiyak. (No, no. She wasn't crying)."

ABS-CBN sought comment from Mayen Austria but she was reportedly not home.

Kris shuts up

Meanwhile, after sending a text message Friday morning to ABS-CBN News explaining her side, Kris turned uncharacteristically silent later in the day.

Kris attended her entertainment commitments on Friday with nary a word about the incident.

Declining to speak before news cameras, she spent the day taping for her new television series "Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo", which starts airing on Monday.

Kris promised her brother, presidential candidate Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, that she will keep silent about the issue, especially after the squabble was given political color.

The Aquino family reportedly received news that Mayen Austria's relatives "now know whom they will not vote for" in light of Kris's actions.

In a press statement, Kris said her family received a text message from Mayen alleging that Kris had berated her family.

The text alleged that Kris told Mayen that her mother Nina "did not bring her up right."

"I don't deserve this most especially my mom," Mayen was said to have texted. "I have chemical depression and could have easily taken an overdose pills because of the incident. With the hugs and love of my mom and sisters, and tranquilizers, I'm okay. Do you want Kris to be in Malacañang?"

Moving on?

Host Boy Abunda, a close friend of the Aquinos, said political innuendoes like these are understandable since it is currently the election season.

However, Abunda insisted that Sen. Aquino should be kept as a "private issue."

He said Kris and James are doing well after the incident happened. James even accompanied Kris to a pictorial for the new reality show "Pilipinas Got Talent" in which Kris is a judge.

That evening, the couple had dinner in Quezon City.

Recently, the Yaps reinforced their bond by doing a duet at the birthday concert of Megastar Sharon Cuneta at the Araneta Coliseum.

James Yap married Kris Aquino on July 10, 2005 in a private civil ceremony. They had a son, James Yap Jr., 2 years later on April 19.

Trouble in paradise?

News of Aquino's marital troubles broke early Friday after two newspapers reported that Aquino had fought with her husband over a phone call from a "mystery woman."

Philippine Star entertainment columnist Ricky Lo published an insider's account of the incident.

The insider said James received a call from a distraught woman while he was having lunch with Kris.

Kris reportedly seemed annoyed after James claimed the woman was a Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants fan who was calling him about her relationship problems.

Kris decided to confront the woman later on.

In a press statement, Kris denied that she shouted or hurled invectives at Mayen and her mother Nina. She said they had a "peaceful conversation."

"I simply made my discomfort known about her daughter's actuations towards my husband... My brother and sisters advised me to not speak further because it would not be compassionate to dwell further on the issue," Kris said in her statement.

Kris and James Yap were reportedly having marital problems last December, in which Kris said she tried hard to "save their marriage." The couple patched things up after a trip to Bangkok.
