First look: 'Oro Plata Mata' in HD

MANILA, Philippines -- A new generation of Filipino moviegoers will soon be able to watch the Peque Gallaga masterpiece "Oro, Plata, Mata," as Star Cinema gears up for the release of the film's restored high definition (HD) version.

Released online on Wednesday via ABS-CBN's official YouTube page, the first trailer for the digitally re-mastered version of the 1982 film offers a first look at the project's restored quality.

Restored in HD by the ABS-CBN Restoration Project in partnership with Central Digital Lab Inc., "Oro, Plata, Mata" premiered at the 2012 Cinema One Originals Film Festival in November.

Set in the province of Negros during World War II, the movie, written by Jose Javier Reyes, tells the story of how two haciendero families cope with the changes brought by the war.

It starred an ensemble cast including Sandy Andolong, Cherie Gil, Mitch Valdes, Lorli Villanueva, Liza Lorena, Kuh Ledesma, Ronnie Lazaro, Joel Torre and Fides Cuyugan-Asencio.

In 1982, "Oro, Plata, Mata" won the Gawad Urian awards for best picture, direction, cinematography, production design, musical score, and sound. In the same year, it won the Luna Awards of the Film Academy of the Philippines for production design and best supporting actress for Lorena.
