'Lets' face it, showbiz is about looking good,' says Ruffa
MANILA, Philippines -- At 38, Ruffa Gutierrez is still ready to "compete" with the younger generation of showbiz beauties.
Now a mother of two -- Lorin, 9, and Venice, 8 -- the actress-host continues to ensure she presents her best self through dieting, exercising and taking up certain skincare measures.
"It doesn't mean that if you're a mom, you have to look like a manang na, specially with competition nowadays. Syempre pabagets nang pabagets ang mga leading ladies," Gutierrez told ABS-CBN at the sidelines of a recent pictorial for an ad campaign.
The daughter of showbiz couple Eddie Gutierrez and Annabelle Rama, the former "The Buzz" host started her career in the entertainment industry at age 12. In 1993, she rose to fame and became the Philippines' pride after placing runner-up in the Miss World pageant.
She has since starred in over a dozen films and appeared in several TV shows as host and actress.
"If you really want to last in the business, you have to keep reinventing yourself. You still have to look young, because let's face it, show business is about looking good," Gutierrez said.
"Everyone wants to see beautiful people, and ayaw naman nilang may makita silang manang, or that you don't take care of yourself. So I think that's what I'm trying to project -- that you can be beautiful and sexy at any age," she said.
As an endorser of the Belo Medical Group, Gutierrez will appear in the clinic chain's ad campaign for summer -- a number of which will be displayed as billboards along some major thoroughfares.
"I'm not afraid," Gutierrez said of going sexy in the campaign. "I'm very confident with my body and how I feel, and I just want to show all the moms out there and people my age that you too can also be sexy, you can be hot, you can look young."
