MANILA, Philippines - Actor Derek Ramsay admitted he is scared to undergo knee surgery.

Ramsay, who plays Judy Ann Santos's leading man in the new ABS-CBN series "Habang May Buhay", said in December last year that he needs to undergo full reconstruction surgery on his right knee. He injured it while playing Frisbee.

Despite having difficulty walking, he said he has delayed the operation because he is also afraid to stay at a hospital because "he feels bad whenever he goes in and out of it."

"To tell you the truth, takot ako kaya hindi ko pa ginagawa. I'd rather go through the pain that I'm going through now, kahit ngayon hirap na hirap na akong maglakad," he said.

He admitted that he is afraid of getting cut open during surgery.

"And it's going all the way to my back and everybody is saying magpa-opera ka na. Feeling ko naman in my head kaya ko namang ayusin in 2 months. But I'm just scared. If I can stay away from the hospital I'll stay away from the hospital... kasi ako ayaw ko talaga sa hospital," Ramsay said.

"I'm just scared of needles, I;m just scared of the fact that they're going to cut me open. Hindi nama ako takot sa dugo. But the mere fact, I feel like I'm helpless and I feel like I'm useless," Ramsay said.

Ramsay, the boyfriend of actress Angelica Panganiban, said he can no longer delay the operation since he is already in a lot of pain. Ramsay is planning to have his knee fixed this coming February or March.

"Kailangan na talaga. It's not everyone is telling me na I have it done, but hindi ko na kaya. Sobrang sakit na talaga," Ramsay stressed.

Currently, Ramsay is busy taping for the remaining scenes of the pioneering medical drama series,"Habang May Buhay."

Ramsay's last television project was "Your Songs Presents: Ang Lalaking Nagmahal sa Akin" where he starred with actress-host Toni Gonzaga.
