MANILA – Anne Curtis denied that she and KC Concepcion have become estranged after the “It’s Showtime” host was given the lead role in the upcoming remake of “Dyesebel.”

“We are okay naman. We are not super close but, of course, when we see each other, we say hi,” Curtis told ABS-CBN News in an interview over the weekend.

Concepcion, who is currently in the United States, apologized to her fans who were expecting her to star in the remake of the fantasy series.

According to Curtis, it is really inevitable for fans to rally behind their idol.

“That will always happen. When I got ‘Kampanerang Kuba,’ lagi namang may kanya-kanyang fan base so it’s inevitable that there will be conflict of different fans who want their idol to portray the role. Even when I got ‘Diyosa’ nangyayari po talaga 'yun,” she said.

At the end of the day, Curtis said she is just thankful that the ABS-CBN management cast her in the mermaid role.

“Actually iba po talaga ang teleserye na gagawin ko. Naka-set ako this year for something a little bit more mature. Pagbalik ko from Canada, tinawag ako ng management para i-share 'yung news. I think may ginawa daw po silang survey, na kahit hindi daw ako kasali sa survey na 'yun, 'yun pangalan ko daw po ang lumalabas. I guess that’s why management gave it to me,” she said.

The original Dyesebel comics was released in 1952. But different takes on the classic tale made it to the big screen as early as 1953. Popular portrayals of the title character include Vilma Santos (1973), Alma Moreno (1978), Alice Dixson (1990) and Charlene Gonzales (1996).

Curtis is the second actress to play Dyesebel in a TV series, following Marian Rivera, who starred in a GMA-7 soap in 2008.
