Gary V on son's departure: 'Medyo masakit'
MANILA -- The second child of Gary Valenciano, Gab, is set to leave for the United States to pursue a career in the music industry.
At the sidelines of a press conference held Thursday afternoon for the 18th anniversary of the concert variety program "ASAP," the older Valenciano said Gab is preparing to leave for Florida next month.
"That's the one that's also medyo masakit, kasi the next time I see him baka December na," the 48-year-old performer, dubbed the country's "Mr. Pure Energy," said.
According to the "ASAP" host, Gab has been planing to start a career overseas for years now. "The only reason he couldn’t leave because, number one, he had to save, to earn. He has to stay here. He had to make up his mind kung ‘yun ang gusto niyang gawin," he said.
Gab is a currently a regular performer on "Sarah G Live", the self-titled TV concert program of singer-actress Sarah Geronimo. On the Sunday night show, Gab shares his expertise in dancing, as well as mixing music for performances.
The 24-year-old performer's skill as a DJ has been honed by online classes he is currently taking up, according to Gary. The senior Valenciano added that the study also spans music for computer games and films.
Referring to Gab, Gary said, "I think kasi his instructors have been e-mailing him and telling him, 'We're listening to your products and you have a place in the industry.' And he said, 'Okay, dad, here we go.'"
The veteran performer said he feels Gab will eventually settle in the US, "because he's already met people there. He's met the people I know and they’ve already said, 'You come to the States [and] we’ll work together.'"
Gary's eldest child, Paolo, meanwhile, is set to marry his long-time girlfriend this month.
"It's a double whammy for me and Angeli (his wife)," Gary said of his sons' respective milestones. "Sometimes blessings are difficult when you know you’ve done well for your children and they have to leave."
