Charice's ma answers criticisms
MANILA, Philippines – The mother of international singing sensation Charice has cried foul over tabloid reports accusing her of seeking financial aid from Oprah Winfrey for Filipino storm victims, but that the money allegedly did not go to the intended beneficiaries.
Winfrey, regarded by some as the most influential woman in the world, has been openly supportive of Charice’s international career. She was the one who introduced Charice to legendary composer-singer David Foster, who is now the producer of the Filipino singer’s first international album.
In her exclusive interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Raquel Pempengco vehemently denied the reports.
“Hindi naman siguro makapal ang mukha ko para manghingi ng ganoon. Ako, maaaring naghihintay ako ng tulong pero hindi ako nanghihingi ng tulong lalo na pinansiyal. Hindi ganoon kalakas ang loob ko," she said.
Pempengco admitted that when typhoon Ondoy struck the country last year she told Foster about the massive destructions it caused. She said it was Foster who volunteered to help.
"Tinanong nila kung paano sila makakatulong. [That time], hindi ko pa alam kung paano sila makakatulong dahil biglaan na din ‘yon. Nagkasabay sa David Foster tour noon, bale nawala na din ‘yong plano nila na [tumulong]." she said.
She added: "’Yon lang ang gusto kong i-clear, ‘yong idadawit ang pangalan ni Oprah sa ganoon isyu, walang katotohanan ‘yon."
Charice herself has provided financial aid to the storm victims. Her mother said the money came from Charice’s sponsors and their own pockets.
"Hindi naman talaga totoo. Ayoko na sanang patulan ‘yon. Ayoko sanang nadadawit ang pangalan ni Oprah sa mga ganitong isyu,” she said.
In a separate interview, Charice also belied the tabloid reports.
Charice said: "Kahit na nakakausap namin si Ms. Oprah ay never kaming humingi ng tulong sa kanya… ‘Yong mga binigay naming tulong sa mga nasalanta ay galing sa mga sponsors ko po at personal namin. Hindi ako nanghingi sa manager ko or si Ms. Oprah."
Pempengco has been the subject of various controversies lately. Recently, Charice also found herself denying claims that her mom is interfering too much with her personal life.

this one nor the other one "speculating" Charice disobeys her mom. What's your excuse for writing that one? Let's see, that article talked about "speculations," "some even claimed," "rumor." Where are your tabloid sources? Oh, this is the tabloid. That would explain it.

If I may point out, the story is Raquel Pempengco’s reactions to negative tabloid reports, which I did not write. If you’ve read the tabloid reports, they all failed to get Pempengco’s side of the story, thus, this article.
It is news worthy because, one, the parties involved (i.e Charice and Oprah Winfrey) are prominent people, and, two, the accusation (i.e. Ondoy victims allegedly not receiving a single centavo) is very serious, thus, worth tackling and “worth reading” as you’ve pointed out.
I’ve been a writer for 3 years now and in all my stories I always make sure that they are accurate and objective.
In this case, I only presented the other side of the story, which is Ms. Pempengco's version of the alleged incident. I am merely telling the story. Let’s not shoot the messenger.

It was definitely a world class performance at par w/ Jordin Sparks kaya lang medyo mahina ang dating mo sa start of both songs. Pero anyway it was impressive, hindi dehado. E pag ganito lang eh kayang kaya mo sina Selena Gomez or Rihanna or Beyonce or AMy Whitehouse! Sisiw lang yung mga upbeat, soul/rhythm and blues na may halong rap!! kayang kaya. A few times on TFC it was mentioned that Charice landed a role in Alvin Chipmunks movie. I saw the movie and I looked for her. Dang! The clips that showed her is probably under a minute in total?

How I wish that these kind of reporters who reports on anything just to get "scoop" not minding if it's true or not and doesn't care who get's hurt, should have been the ones who were massacred by andal ampatuan. We don't need these kind of reporters. They are the ones who are dragging all the good ones down. Para sa reporter na sumulat nito,"bakit nandoon ka ba nang humingi ng tulong ang nanay ni Charice?" o' di ka lang nabigyan ng hiningi mo sa mga Pempenco? Karamihan kasi ng mga showbiz reporters ay parang Jokebox na baligtad, "kung lagyan ng pera tatahimik, pero kung hindi, ay naku ang ingay".
