Awards just a 'bonus' for director Lamasan
MANILA – For veteran director Olivia Lamasan, being recognized by award-winning bodies isn't as important compared to the reaction of moviegoers to her films.
"Kasi 'pag maraming nagka-gusto sa pelikula, ;yun na 'yung award for me. Bonus na yung may trophy,” she told entertainment reporters while promoting her upcoming movie "Starting Over Again," starring Piolo Pascual and Toni Gonzaga.
Lamasan added that the public's appreciation also affirms her worth as a director.
“When a person comes to me, when I'm approached for example, and told that, 'Ang ganda ng movie mo, Olive. 'Yung line na ganito, It affected me. 'Yung eksenang ganito, grabe.' Talagang na-realize ko dun na effective ako," she said.
Lamasan quickly clarified that she also feels honors when award-giving bodies recognize her work, especially the performances of her cast.
“Kapag awards night, palagi kong ipinagdadasal ko talaga na manalo ang actors ko. It gives me great joy kasi pakiramdam ko nanalo na ako,” she said.
“Palaging nauuna na 'Sana manalo si ganito' bago ko masabing 'Sana manalo ako kasi kitang-kita ko kasi lahat ng ibinibigay nila," Lamasan added.
"Starting over Again" tells the story of Ginny (Gonzaga) and Marco (Pascual). The two met in school and eventually fell for each other but their relationship suddenly ended when Ginny left for no apparent reason.
When she returns, Ginny finds herself wanting to rekindle her past with Marco.
The movie will hit theaters on February 12 in time for Valentine's Day.
