MANILA – Melanie Marquez believes an unforeseen force, which she considers her angel, saved her from the horrific car crash wherein her SUV fell into a 12-foot ravine near the Utah-Arizona border in the United States last December 7.

Marquez, who is now back in the Philippines, narrated to ABS-CBN News’ Mario Dumaual her traumatic experience.

As they were making their way home from Las Vegas, Marquez said she hit a patch of ice causing her to lose control over the vehicle.

God is really great. Baka lahat po kami ay may misyon pang dapat gampanan,” she said.

Marquez said she tried to compose herself when she saw the vehicle starting to emit smoke.

Determined to seek help, Marquez said: “Akala ko that will be the last of my life. And then all of a sudden, nakita ko 'yung nanay ng kaibigan ko, napabangon ako. Sabi ko hindi pwedeng mamatay sila. Para sa akin responsibility ko sila. I have to survive.

Saying she had to hike back to the road with a broken spine, Marquez believes an angel helped her for she wouldn't have done that all by herself.

“Dasal lang ako nang dasal. Sabi ko ‘God allow me to save my companions and then you can get my life.’ Willing ako as long as I save my companions. Hindi ko makakalimutan 'yun,” she said.

Two months after the accident, Marquez she has to endure wearing a body brace because of the injuries she sustained.

This drew laughter during the interview after she was told she probably meant "pwede ako ma-paralyze (not ma-parasite)."

After everything, Marquez said she is grateful for her second life.
