BB shares encounter with Anne Hathaway
MANILA, Philippines – It's not just entertainment editor Ricky Lo who has had an encounter with Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway.
Actor Rustom Padilla, who is now more known as BB Gandanghari, said he also met the "Les Miserables" star by chance when he was still living in New York -- and it was a pleasant experience.
Speaking on “Mornings@ANC” on Thursday, Gandanghari said he was walking his dog around Central Park in New York when a woman suddenly told him his dog is cute.
Gandanghari said he was shocked when he saw that the woman praising his dog was Hathaway.
“I have my dog around. Si Eman -- he's the Eman of my life. He's a labrador retriever. He's huge. Nakakatawa iyan kasi we were in New York so sa Central Park, I would walk the dog everyday. He has to walk, he has to play. One time, nagwo-walk kami tapos may nakasalubong akong medyo matabang brown labrador din. Biglang ume-enter frame si Anne Hathaway,” he said.
“Sabi niya 'Wow nice your dog.' Siyempre ako naman 'Yeah, your dog too.' Tapos sabi niya 'But your dog is fitter. My dog is fat.' Siyempre proud mama naman ako,” he added.
Gandanghari, however, was not able to have a picture taken with Hathaway.
“Nakakahiya, kasi siyempre I know the feeling. Especially in New York, naku sasabihan ka doon na ‘Excuse me?’ Especially in that time of the day, kasi morning. Kasi doon, you can really see -- si Barbara Walters just walks from her place in the west side to the east side. You would really see actors and actresses walking around, napaka-normal lang,” he said.
Gandanghari said he loves staying in the United States because it is where he gets some sense of “normalcy.”
For the past years, he has been traveling back and forth to the US.
“Parang kasi dito lumalaki tayo na very conscious of what people say to us. So when I went to the US, doon ko na-realize teka, bakit dito wala silang pakialam?” he said.
Gandanghari said New York actually helped him a lot when he was still figuring out who he wants to become.
“Pag dating ko sa New York, it was actually the transition of Rustom to BB and it was really very hard. But it helped me a lot nung nandoon ako kasi I was able to explore without pre-judgment. Hindi rin ako natatakot na baka sabihin ng tao mukha akong tanga. Nakapag-experiment talaga ako in a sense na when I did my transition, the hardest part was I myself did not know who I am becoming,” he explained.
Asked where is he now in the process of his “transformation,” he said: “I don't really exactly know where but one thing is for sure. When I got back very recently, ang tanong sakin ‘Have you taken the first step?’ Siyempre sagot naman ako ng sagot. After everything, I thought 'I think I've made the first step years ago.' As far as I'm concerned, I've made my first step when I said Rustom is dead.”
