MANILA - Former beauty queen Margarita Moran-Floirendo has expressed her support for socialite Ruby Tuason, who came out of hiding to turn state witness in the pork barrel scam.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News' Mario Dumaual, Moran explained the importance of Tuason's testimony, not just for the case, but also for her conscience.

"I am proud of her. I've known Ruby way in the past and I think if you're an honest person, something like this would really bother you. And her coming out to really help the jury, the courts in judging the case, we need good people in politics," she said.

"It's true what she said that she would want to leave a legacy with her grandchildren," she added.

When asked what triggered her change of heart, Tuason told the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing; "I don't want to die with millions of Filipinos hating me. I don't want to die with my grandchildren being ashamed of me."

Moran, the winner of Miss Universe 1973, hopes that this latest development would help change the landscape of Philippine politics, and that it would inspire more people to help make it happen.

"We have to get rid of all the dishonest people who run our government," she said. "And I hope that the good people who can be politicians can become one."
