MANILA, Philippines – After a long hiatus, singer April Boy Regino is set to make a comeback.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Regino, who is now based in the United States, announced that he and pound-for-pound king Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao are set to record a duet together.

Regino said the project is the idea of composer Lito Camo, who wrote songs for Pacquiao including instant hits “Para Sa Iyo ang Laban Na Ito” and “Lahing Pilipino.”

Regino said he hopes the duet will eventually revive his singing career.

"Gagawa siya (Camo) ng kanta ni Manny Pacquiao bago mag- boxing. Sabi niya hihilingin niya kay Manny na magkaroon kami ng duet," Regino said. "Sabi ko, ‘Aba, maganda 'yan. Sige.’ Ang tagal ko nang walang pinapasikat na awitin."

Regino, who sang "Ye Ye Vonnel" and “Esperanza,” said he and the people’s champ have already talked on several occasions.

"Nagkakausap kami bago siya lumaban. Hindi nga lang ako nakakanood ng laban niya kasi sumasabay naman sa show ko doon,” he said.

Pacquiao is currently training in the United States for his much awaited match with Joshua Clottey. Regino, whose last television guesting was on “Wowowee,” is now in the Philippines to join the campaign sorties of a presidential candidate.

The singer said he is grateful that some people still remember him and his music.

"Salamat at hindi niyo ako nakakalimutan at hindi niyo nakakalimutan ang aking awitin," he said.
